Course Description
In this course, participants focus on how to facilitate and work collaboratively within various groups to gain and improve reading, writing, speaking and listening, vocabulary, and study skills in the English content area. The students will learn how to read, research, analyze, and evaluate complex literary and informational texts in order to participate in academic discussions and develop academic writing. These are skills that enable you to be career and college ready.
Essential Skills
In this course, students will be able to demonstrate the following skills in order to be college and career ready:
- read and understand complex texts.
- respond using complex texts (discussion, literary analysis, research
and narrative writing)
- develop responses with a strong thematic statements.
- provide support with appropriate evidence for claims.
- integrate quotations using the TLQ method.
- document sources with MLA in-text citation.
- develop conclusion with a closing sentence and an universal statement.
- use MLA style for construction of typed assignments (margins, header, heading, page numbers, Works Cited page).
- use academic vocabulary in speaking and writing.
